Ideas Digital Forum 2018: Art Now + Art Next

How do public art galleries engage with digital technologies? Take a deep dive into this pressing topic over two-days of invigorating conversations with leading curators, artists and digital specialists from across the country at The Robert McLaughlin Gallery (RMG) on October 12 and 13, 2018. Held in partnership with the Ontario Association of Art Galleries (OAAG), this symposium will address the impact of digital technologies on art galleries.
Ideas Digital Forum provides an opportunity to explore two urgent needs:
- How do we contextualize and understand contemporary digital art practices in the current moment while acknowledging the embedded and long histories located at the intersection of art, science, and technology?
- How do we engage with the challenges of the Public Art Gallery sector in exhibiting and collecting these artworks and supporting artists?
The two-day forum will bring together professionals from the Public Art Gallery sector, artists, scholars, and curators for an opportunity to gain insight and engage in discussions on the intersection of art and digital technologies: how it is curated; how it is exhibited; how it is collected; how it is archived; how its audience is engaged; and how it is written about.
Who should attend? The forum will address themes of particular importance to artists and arts professionals who are negotiating the challenges of a continuously changing digital environment. This event is ideal for curators, educators, artists, arts professionals and students who are interested in learning more about and/or implementing digital technologies in public institutions.
Speakers will include: Liane Davison (Surrey Art Gallery), Jean Gagnon (independent curator), Niranjan Rajah (Simon Fraser University), Srinivas Krishna (Founder and CEO of Awe Company), Zainub Verjee (Ontario Association of Art Galleries), and more.
- Early Bird Two Day Pass: $195 (must be booked by September 14)
- Two Day Pass: $220
- One Day Pass: $125 (please specify which day you will be attending below)
- Student Pass: $60, for a one or two day pass (you will be asked to specify days attending upon registration)

Location: Ideas Digital Forum 2018 will be held at The Robert McLaughlin Gallery, 72 Queen Street, in downtown Oshawa, Ontario. The RMG is approximately one hour from Toronto and is located within a short distance of Oshawa Station (GO and VIA) and Highway 401. The RMG is a fully accessible facility.
