The Wild Nellies
April 08, 2018 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM
The Wild Nellies are pleased to present women creators of music, art, film, literature and theatre along with a reveal of the sheroes who inspire them.
The Wild Nellies have gathered a marvelous ensemble of women creatives to perform and exhibit their diverse works. They’ll be joined by singer songwriter Cheryl Casselman; filmmaker photographer Michelle Coombs; illustrator and fine artist Dani Crosby; theatre actress Lisa Ferreira; singer songwriter Cheryl Ireland; writer and blogger Carin Makuz; sculptor Erika Takacs; and novelist Gwen Tuinman. Artists will reveal stories underlying their art and pay tribute to the sheroes who inspire them. Also sharing thoughts on the influence of women and story are special guests Ellen Stroud of The Oshawa Public Library and friend of The Wild Nellies, Lisa Edgar.
In the spirit of empowering women, The Wild Nellies extend their friendship to The Denise House, an Oshawa shelter for women escaping domestic abuse. Melanie Guy, Development and Volunteer Manager, will be on hand to accept donations. Carin Makuz will be reading stories gifted to her by Denise House clients who wrote them during creative sessions she facilitates there.
Join The Wild Nellies for a feel-good afternoon full of smiles and heart! Admission and refreshments are free. Take part in a creative collaboration with The Denise House, led by vision board guru, Mona Blaker. The finished piece will return to the shelter as a message of encouragement.
