This post comes to us from our guest blogger, Raechel Bonomo.
It’s lights, camera, action as The RMG captures the best of Canadian photography at RMG Exposed.
RMG Exposed is an annual juried photography gala that features an award ceremony and silent auction in support of the gallery. Hosted at the gallery, this year’s event is 1960’s mod themed and will be held on November 22nd.
Each year, the gallery puts a call out for submissions for original work. An artist can submit up to three pieces and is required to fill out a submission form with their pieces. This year, the gallery received 360 submissions.
Finalists were chosen for each category including Photojournalism/Documentary, Landscape/Nature, Conceptual/Non-Representational and Student. A preview of the finalists photographs are available at rmgexposed.com and will be available for purchase in the auction at the event. All proceeds from the auction and tickets sold will go into art education programs at the gallery.
Prizes are awarded to winning finalists for Best Overall Submission, best in each category, and the Community Choice Award, selected by RMG exposed attendees. This year’s RMG Exposed jury includes award-winning photojournalist Mike Berube, Snap’d Oshawa publisher Ryan Cleary, and photographer Marni Grossman.
The top award of the night is the CIBC Wood Gundy Emerging Photographer Award for best overall submission in all categories. The winner is selected by the jury and is awarded a solo exhibition at the gallery in Spring 2015 and $2,000 toward artist’s fees.
In addition to art, the night will be filled with food, fine wine and live entertainment starting at 9 p.m. Tickets are $60 and are available for purchase at rmgexposed.com
